Cyclists and Walkers Welcome

Cyclists & Walkers are Welcome at Gilestone Farm

Gilestone Farm is accredited to the Visit Wales Cyclists & Walkers Welcome scheme for the extensive provisions made here at Gilestone which enable visitors to make the most of their stay – whether on two wheels or by foot. We have a dedicated information centre with maps for cyclists and walkers as well as a wash-down area for kit, a tool hub, storage and clothes drying room.

The Talybont area is a great place for gentle strolls along the canal or for hill walking and cycling. Its history is entwined with the canal and the Brinore Tramroad – an early and important transport route for coal and limestone from the coalfield valleys of south Wales. The Tramroad is a good way to explore some the local area on foot or by bike, along the valley and up in to the surrounding hills. Talybont has been designated as a mountain biking centre with a wide range of graded trails from the village – the maps are available at Gilestone Farm.  The 55 mile Taff Trail, from Brecon to Cardiff Bay, passes through the village making a spectacular and varied bike or hiking experience. Bike Park Wales, for adventurous mountain bikers who like their trails designed for thrills, is a short drive away (18 miles / 35 mins).

We’re also lucky to have Bikes & Hikes based in the village for bike hire and servicing. As well as an excellent parts and equipment shop close-by in Llangynidr (4 miles) –
Cycle Basket.
